See our Loss Control personnel
IU Loss Control inspectors act in the same manner as Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office inspectors and as liaisons to that office. One of our principal functions is fire and building code enforcement on all IU properties. This includes being part of the design team for new construction, overseeing design aspects such as egress, fire suppression and emergency notification. Several of our staff have previously worked as fire officers with local fire departments. This places us in a special position with responders and provides a close working relationship.
Our loss control inspectors provide training in the use of extinguishers, CPR and first aid.
In addition to building fire inspections, we provide testing services on sixty+ fire pumps and all fire hydrants owned by the university.
Fire prevention, fire codes and building codes compliance are important safety measures and we are dedicated to that safety effort.
