Personal Losses — FAQ/FYI
Am I covered if I’m driving my personal car on IU business?
If you are driving your personal vehicle on IU business it becomes an IU vehicle insofar as liability coverage. IU will cover liability claims from dollar one — you have no personal liability exposure. However, once you step outside of your IU business role, you are no longer driving for IU business and the liability coverage reverts back to your personal insurance carrier.
What about damage to my vehicle?
IU does not provide coverage for damage to your vehicle. You must turn that claim into your personal insurance carrier.
Does IU insure my personal property?
If IU requires you to use your personal property on the job we will provide actual cash value coverage for your property.
Actual cash value = replacement cost less depreciation
- You must provide proof you were required to have the item(s) on the job.
- It is helpful to establish your loss if you can document what has been lost. Photos are good documentation.
- If the loss is theft or disappearance a police report must be filed.
- Conversion (e.g., loaning something to someone who never returns it) is not covered.
- Ancillary losses (e.g., clothing taken from your locked car when away from campus) are not covered.
