The Office of Insurance, Loss Control & Claims (INLOCC) is responsible for managing risks at Indiana University. INLOCC works closely with the university community and partners with various departments to develop loss control and risk reduction methods. INLOCC’s mission is to protect the university’s assets and ensure the safety of its employees, students, and guests.
INLOCC utilizes five fundamentals of risk management: avoidance, prevention, reduction/control, transfer, and finance. Avoidance involves identifying activities that are best avoided and offering advice about preventing or reducing the probability or severity of a loss. Prevention includes rules, policies, guidelines, best practices, building standards, and the coordinated efforts of employees and students. Loss prevention is the responsibility of everyone in the university community. Reduction/control involves reducing or controlling risk whenever possible. Transfer involves transferring risk from IU to someone else by contract. Finance involves accepting the risk and developing a plan to manage it.
INLOCC’s role in managing risks at IU includes coordinating fire safety, driving privileges, and occupational safety and health. INLOCC works to identify and control the risks that might arise on the job in order to provide a safe, healthy work environment.
